Aside from your studies, what else do you like to spend time doing?

Growing up, and through university, I was a competitive alpine ski racer. I went to a high school where, in the winter, we would go to school for only half of the day and then ski the rest of the day. Although I continued skiing throughout university, I’ve since “retired,” and I now enjoy skiing for fun and appreciate the opportunity to spend time outside with friends.

What are the essential qualities of a good lawyer? How do you display those qualities?

I believe that the best lawyers are not only diligent problem-solvers but are also great communicators and listeners. Last year, I worked with startup companies led by engineers. This challenged me to tailor my communication to better fit the way they think, which is sometimes different than how a lawyer might present information to other lawyers. I believe this is a crucial skill for lawyers, as clients may not always have the same legal training as you, and need to receive information in a way that is effective for them.

Is there an organization that means a lot to you? And how are you involved?

Stardust Startups is a non-profit that provides support to emerging social and environmental entrepreneurs, founded in memory of Angus Moloney, a young entrepreneur. I became involved with Stardust Startups as an intern. Although I never met Angus, I was touched by his story and value the opportunity to be a part of the organization’s impact on emerging entrepreneurs across the globe. I now serve as a member of the Board of Directors, and it is so gratifying to see how Stardust Startups continues to catalyze socially- and environmentally-conscious entrepreneurial innovation.
