Davies’ Annual Corporate/Securities Law Moot 2023
On March 10 and 11, students from 14 law schools across Canada competed in the 32nd annual Davies Corporate/Securities Law Moot.
This year’s problem, loosely based on the Ontario Court of Appeal’s decision in Wong v Pretium Resources, explored a secondary market liability misrepresentation claim arising out of an alleged failure to disclose material information.
The top two teams competed in a final round before a five-member panel comprising The Honourable Justice David M. Brown of the Ontario Court of Appeal; The Honourable Justice Andromache Karakatsanis of the Supreme Court of Canada; The Honourable Justice Siobhan Monaghan of the Federal Court of Appeal; The Honourable Justice Michael A. Penny of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List); and Mr. Grant Vingoe, CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission.
