About the Position

We are looking for a Pricing Analyst to join the firm’s national Pricing team, based in our Toronto or Montréal office. This entry-level position offers an exciting opportunity to support critical aspects of our firm’s pricing and matter management program, including gathering and analyzing historical pricing data, matter planning, monitoring, budgeting and reporting. This role will provide valuable experience in financial analytics, budgeting and pricing strategy within a law firm.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide financial and pricing analysis to support the Pricing team members in developing fee estimates, matter budgets and pricing options in response to client RFPs and ad hoc pricing requests
  • Assist with the development of estimates by analyzing and applying historical matter data
  • Assist with the management of a database of pricing engagements and fee proposals, ensuring accurate classification and following up to determine outcomes
  • Assist with post-matter financial analysis with the aim of utilizing historical matter data and related insight to assist in the pricing of future matters and improving financial performance
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the firm's pricing and matter management program, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all areas, including management of matter plans and templates
  • Identify matters that are suitable for tracking by phase/task, completing necessary follow ups and ensuring proper coding
  • Assign phase/task codes to new files using the appropriate templates or customize plans based on client and matter requirements
  • Set up matter budgets, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Coordinate ad hoc reporting requests and handle time entry coding needs
  • Troubleshoot and maintain the matter management systems to ensure smooth operations
  • Prepare reporting on firm clients and matters to respond to business and client needs
  • Assist the Pricing and Legal Project Management teams in improving tools and processes related to pricing, matter estimates, matter tracking and reporting and post-matter analysis

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Information Science or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience is preferred, ideally in pricing, accounting, billing, project management or a quantitative-focused role within a law firm, corporate legal department or professional services organization
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
  • Excellent project and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in data manipulation, with the ability to present findings to key stakeholders
  • Basic programming knowledge and familiarity with SQL
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities
  • A collaborative approach to teamwork
  • Keen interest in, and aptitude for, using technology to enhance efficiency
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills; experience with financial analysis tools is a plus
  • Familiarity with Aderant Expert or similar legal financial software is an asset
  • Ability to learn, leverage and use additional programs including budgeting and financial management software
  • Working knowledge of French is an asset
