Having a bachelor of commerce in finance and marketing will allow Ana Maria to better understand clients’ financial and strategic needs.

Ana Maria has participated in the firm’s mentorship programs in her first and second years of law school and is now looking forward to continuing gaining knowledge of the legal world as a law student.

Why are you interested in practicing law?

When I started my bachelor of commerce, I began seeing the many implications of law in a business context. This practical aspect of law really appealed to me, which encouraged me to pursue legal studies.

Is there a practice area or industry in which you are particularly interested? Why?

I recently completed an internship at an asset management company. Venture capital and fund formation are of particular interest to me, as I believe they will continue to evolve in the future. It would also be particularly interesting to me to advise start-ups and follow them through their growth and development.

What qualities do you think a good lawyer should have? How do you display those qualities?

One of the most important qualities for a lawyer is the ability to gain clients’ trust by communicating effectively and providing quality work. I am a good listener and I ask questions to better understand people’s needs and adapt my work accordingly.
