Tax litigation partner Marie-France Dompierre is named in the National Law Journal’s (NLJ) 2022 list of Sports, Gaming and Entertainment Law Trailblazers, recognizing her tax work on behalf of non-resident athletes playing in Canada.
Marie-France has particular expertise helping non-resident professional athletes navigate Canada’s complex tax system to mitigate their overall Canadian tax burden and avoid, manage and resolve potential disputes with Canadian tax authorities.
“Most professional athletes are employees and, like any other employees, they pay their fair share of taxes,” she says. “However, given the complex and ever-changing global tax landscape, tax compliance has become an increasingly heavy burden for this group, leading to disparities and double-taxation.” Read the full interview in the NLJ’s November issue.
