As counsel in the New York and Toronto offices, Hugh joins Davies after serving as General Counsel in the Americas for two global financial services firms. Prior to that, Hugh practised in New York for ten years in the banking and finance group of a leading global law firm which included secondments to HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. in connection with the Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation and Credit Suisse as a negotiator.
Hugh focuses his practice on international financings, particularly in the infrastructure, transportation and energy sectors, including public-private partnerships. He advises banks and leasing companies in various aircraft and railcar purchasing and financing transactions. His range of work includes securities offerings, structured finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate lending and leveraged finance.

Acted for the selected consortium formed by Plenary Americas, Phoenix Infrastructure Group and EllisDon Capital for the design, build, finance and maintenance of eight new schools as a part of the second phase of the Blueprint Schools program in Prince George County, Maryland.

Acted for Russel Metals Inc. in the establishment of a $600 million credit facility.
Plenary Americas LP
Acted for Maryland and Energy Impact Partners, a Plenary Americas-led consortium including Kiewit Development Company, Kiewit Power Constructors, Honeywell International, in its winning bid to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the NextGen Energy Program, a district energy system for the University of Maryland.
Blackstone Inc.
Acted for Blackstone in its US$3.5-billion take-private acquisition of Tricon Residential Inc., an owner, operator and developer of a portfolio of approximately 38,000 single-family rental homes in the U.S. Sun Belt and multi-family apartments in Toronto.
TPG
Acted as counsel to TPG in its acquisition (and related financings) from Oxford Property Group of a 75% interest in two Class-A industrial business parks in the Greater Toronto Area valued at C$1.3-billion.
