AFC Toronto and Northern Super League Launch with Strong Support from Davies

Today, AFC Toronto, Toronto’s first professional women’s soccer club, announced its brand launch. AFC Toronto will be one of six clubs in the Northern Super League, a new Canadian women’s pro soccer league that will kick off a 25-game season in April 2025 with franchises in Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax and Calgary. The NSL was co-founded by former Canada women's national soccer team player Diana Matheson.

Davies partners Natasha MacParland and Brooke Jamison offered their time and expertise, pro bono, to AFC Toronto, and in that capacity took the lead in negotiating and documenting the deal to form the league. “Brooke, Natasha and the Davies team played a pivotal role in transforming our vision into reality through their exceptional dedication and expertise. Their steadfast support of AFC Toronto has played a crucial role, laying the groundwork for the Northern Super League. With their expertise and commitment, we are confident that our club and league are established on the strongest foundation possible,” said Helena Ruken, Co-Founder and CEO of AFC Toronto.

Brooke and Natasha were supported by a team of leading experts at Davies, including Sharon Ford and Sabina Han (Tax); Benoit Archambault and Sumeet Dang (Intellectual Property); and Jonathan Kyriacou (Corporate).

This work is one of several pro bono mandates that Davies has taken on relating to women in sports. We are proud to dedicate our time and resources to pro bono matters and we look forward to cheering on AFC Toronto at its first NSL match in 2025.
